Breast Cancer : How To Deal With Larger Tumors ?

F
aced with tumors larger care rests in a first time on a preoperative treatment, which aims to reduce the size of the tumor. Once it has "melted", one can use the techniques described above.

Does this mean that mastectomy is definitively abandoned ? Unfortunately not, it remains three indications for this practice :
  • The multifocal tumors, ie when several tumors are present in the same ranks
  • The bulky tumors that do not meet the preoperative treatment for "melt"
  • Women who experience a recurrence after conservative treatment
In this case, the techniques are :
The total mastectomy or simple, which is a breast removed in its entirety;
The modified radical mastectomy, which is a full removal of the breast and tissues that cover the pectoral muscles.

"The radical mastectomy or radical Halsted, which outweighed the womb, the pectoral muscles underlying and content of the axillary, is abandoned in France since the 1960" we said Dr. Clough.
