iving near high-voltage lines or near other sources of magnetic fields may be increasing the risk of breast cancer ?Despite the many fears, it would appear that the link has been established by an American study conducted at Long Island. This region in the East New York has a rate of breast cancer abnormally high.
Initiated in 1996, the investigation team of Dr. Cristina Leske studied 1161 women under 75 years old and living in the same house for at least 15 years (576 breast cancer and 585 no).
After measuring exposure to magnetic fields in their homes, mapped the power lines feeding homes… results in agreement with previous studies on the subject could not detect any link between breast cancer and magnetic field.
"These results are reassuring vis-à-vis the domestic levels of electromagnetic fields as those from electric cables in and around the house are not linked to breast cancer," says Dr. Leske.
